Dangling Donuts – Youth Group Game

Today’s we have a youth work game that’s both delicious and messy – Dangling Donuts.

You’ll need

  • Unused drop cloth
  • Jelly donuts, preferably covered in sugar (n.b. UK – Jam Doughnuts 😉 )
  • String or needle & thread
  • Sticky tape
  • Hungry young people

Set Up

Feed a long piece of string or thread through the center of each donut and tie around, so that the donut doesn’t fall when you pick up the string from the other end.

Next, tape the non-donut end of the string to the ceiling, so that the donut is dangling at mouth height – take into account the height of the youth you’re working with. Do this for each of the donuts, leaving enough space for each youth to be able to stand next to a dangling donut. Finally, lay the drop cloth down so that it’s beneath all the donuts.

To Play

Call up as many youth as you have donuts. The aim of the game is to be the first one to completely eat their donut. The twist is that they’re not allowed to touch the donut with anything other than their mouth, so have them stand with their hands behind their back.

Thanks to gravity, it’s unlikely that they’ll be able to completely eat their dangling donut before it becomes a dropped donut (hence the drop cloth). The youth still have to finish eating it though, meaning they have to eat the donut off the drop cloth – still not using their hands.

All the jelly and sugar being mushed on their face helps ensure this is a game you’ll want to video and/or take photos of!
