If you’re the chief organizer of a youth retreat and you’re quite an independent person, it might be hard to include your youth retreat volunteers in the planning process as you’d like full control. Resist this though!
Here are 5 reasons to involve your volunteers when planning a youth retreat:
1) Extra ideas – The more people there are involved in the planning, the more ideas that will be suggested. This will give you a better selection of ideas to choose from, hopefully resulting in an even better retreat.
2) Gets people committed at an early stage – If youth retreat volunteers are included in the decision-making process at an early stage, this will give them buy-in and will result in them being more committed. They’ll also be more likely to show up to planning meetings if they know they’ll have a say, rather than just being told what’s going to be happening.
3) Shows what they’re passionate about – The ideas that your volunteers come up with will most likely be to do with things that they’re passionate about. This not only helps you get to know your volunteers better, but it also……
4) Helps with delegating – The areas that your youth retreat volunteers are passionate about will also probably be the areas that they want to help with leading up to and at the actual retreat. This makes it easier to delegate tasks which in turn……
5) Lightens your workload – Organizing a youth retreat means you’ll have a much higher workload on top of whatever your normal job is. Getting your volunteers involved in coming up with ideas and planning for it will lighten your workload, making your life easier and stress-free.
