I’m the behind-the-scenes person in Youth Workin It, taking care of the more practical side of things. I deal with the admin, website, handle travel arrangements, finances, etc. I also write some of the posts on the Youth Workin’ It blog.
Why do you do what you do?
I love working with young people and making an impact in their lives. I made a number of poor choices as a young person, so I like to help guide them into making better choices for their own lives. I’m also a practical person, hence why I’m also in charge of the behind-the-scenes parts of Youth Workin It. As Shae’s such an awesome youth worker, this also frees up her time to be able to focus on direct youth work.
What is your experience?
I’ve been a volunteer youth worker in faith-based organizations for about ten years. I’ve also helped lead summer camps for disadvantaged young people and been a foster parent in a group home.
Who do you work with?
What is your favorite?
Meal: Som Tom from Thailand, Mexican Gumbo from Qdoba in the US, a decent Indian Curry in England and Brochette and Chips from Rwanda
Book: Red, Black, White and Green by Ted Dekker and to get you thinking about stuff, anything by Rob Bell
Movie: Me when I was on the Weakest Link. OK, it wasn’t a film, but being in front of Anne Robinson was pretty epic! Otherwise, I’d probably have to go for Evan Almighty
Animal: Baby Mountain Gorilla
Ice cream: Anything from Coldstone Creamery
Job (other than youth worker): International Health Insurance Administrator
Youth Work Memory: Anytime a youth says you made some kind of impact in their lives
